Framed Shower Doors
Sturdy, practical, and easier on the budget. A good framed door does the job for years — and for a tub shower, it's often the smartest choice. Serving Salt Lake City, Sandy, Draper, and the whole Salt Lake Valley.
What a framed door actually is
A framed shower door has a metal frame around the glass — top, sides, and a track along the bottom. The frame carries the weight, so the glass can be thinner and the whole unit costs less than a frameless door. Sliding and swinging styles are both available.
Framed doors have been the standard for decades for a reason: they're durable, they seal well, and they work in almost any opening, including the tub showers that are in most Salt Lake homes.
When framed is the right call
- Over a bathtub. A framed sliding door is the classic tub-shower setup — it keeps water in and doesn't need swing clearance.
- Budget matters. Framed doors cost less than frameless for the same opening, and the difference can be significant on a large enclosure.
- Rentals and family bathrooms. The frame takes the knocks of daily use, and parts are easy to replace if something wears out.
- You want a tight seal. The frame and track give the door a defined seal all the way around, which helps in showers that see heavy use.
Framed vs. frameless — the honest trade-off
Frameless looks more open and is easier to wipe down, because there's no track for water to sit in. Framed costs less, seals tighter, and is more forgiving of walls that aren't perfectly square. Neither is "better" in general — it depends on your shower, your budget, and what you care about. If you aren't sure, tell us about your shower in the quote form and we'll give you a straight recommendation. We'd rather talk you into the right door than the expensive one.
What to expect
We measure in person and quote for your actual opening. Most framed doors are standard sizes with some adjustment, so the turnaround is usually faster than a custom frameless build. Installation is typically a single visit. We'll talk through glass options (clear, frosted, patterned) and frame finishes with you.
Cost depends on the size, the style (sliding or swinging), and the finish. We quote after measuring, so the number you get is for your shower — not a guess. Quotes are free.
Keeping it working well
The bottom track is the part that needs the most attention — a quick wipe every week or two keeps soap and mineral buildup from slowing the rollers. If a door starts sticking or the rollers get noisy, that's usually a simple fix, not a reason to replace the door. See our repair page if yours is already giving you trouble.
